
The Honorable Sharon E. Burke is a leading expert in the United States on ecosecurity, or the intersection of security and environmental sustainability. She is an advisor, writer, speaker, and futurist on a range of ecosecurity topics, including energy, critical minerals, food security, climate change, biodiversity, and international security. With a distinguished record of government service, she has worked for three U.S. presidents, including as the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Operational Energy in the Barack H. Obama Administration and as an advisor and speechwriter for the Deputy Secretary of State in the George W. Bush Administration. Burke started her career in the Energy and Materials Program at the U.S. Office of Technology Assessment and has held leadership positions in several civil society organizations focused on defense, sustainability, and human rights, in addition to her public service. Educated at Williams College and Columbia University, she is the president of Ecospherics, a small, woman-owned research firm, and the co-founder of a non-profit organization, the Ecosecurity Council.
